Jabin's March Madness Chariity Pool - Round 1

Round 1 is in the books, and this pool is still wide open. This is a recording.

A pretty decent Friday of hoopage, and Duke won big, so you know I'm not just saying that. Both No. 1 seeds in action, the aforementioned University of New Jersey at Durham and Syracuse, were absolutely dominant. The first 10 minutes of the Syracuse-Vermont game were downright scary with the mismatches, but Vermont clearly rallied after CBS cut away to all those Geico commercials, because the final score wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Louisville continued a mild Big East face plant in this here tournament -- and Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin put tongues to wagging about all those nice young men in Big Ten Country.

And so many commercials! Has anyone noticed that there seem to be more commercials this year? I don't know if CBS is doing it intentionally, but with their "live look-ins" and transitions between games, I swear I am seeing more ads and less basketball. Of course, I have no scientific evidence to prove this, but I have no scientific evidence that Coach K collects "Hello Kitty" lunchboxes either. And yet strangely, both are true. They must be, they're written (right here) on the Internets.

So again, it's still early, but back to the pool standings. How about that Peggyzags? Picked 27 of 32 games right in the first round (no small achievement in this year of parity, or whatever word you want to use to say there are no dominant teams). For her efforts Peggyzags has sole possession of first place. She is followed closely by Doubtful and Last Second, who are tied for second at 26 points, and a five-way tie for third at 25 points. Lots of moving and shaking to come this weekend, so stay tuned.
