The Final Four - Championship game is set
Beavis surges into title contention
Michigan and Villanova advanced to Monday's championship game, and in the process put Beavis in the championship picture of Jabin's March Madness Charity Pool.
The Wolverines ended Loyola University Chicago's magical run, and ousted America's sweetheart -- Sister Jean, the 98-year-old nun -- in the process. A tough ending for the Ramblers, and they didn't play their best game, but still a great story in this tournament.
In the nightcap, Villanova shot the lights out in the first half, and then didn't let up in the second half en route to a big win (unexpectedly, at least by margin) over Kansas. I have to admit I got this one wrong, as I thought it would be a lot closer. Most everyone did.
So back in the pool, Beavis had both games of the national semifinal picked correctly to surge into a tie with M and M, who was alone in the lead entering the Final Four. They stand tied at 69 points. Beavis has Villanova as national champion, and M and M has Kentucky. So obviously a Villanova win on Monday gives the title to Beavis.
So what about a Michigan win? Nobody within 6 points of the lead has a Villanova win, so a Michigan win Monday night would preserve the current tie between Beavis and M and M. That brings it down to the tie-breaker (total points in championship game). Beavis has 123, and M and m has 144, which favors M and M, since Villanova is such a high-scoring team. We shall see.
So Monday should be something, as Villanova and Michigan play for all the marbles. Until then, complete standings are updated and available on the site.
